Welcome to the Hale Clinic
The Functional Medicine model as taught by the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM) is one of the most comprehensive models available for doctors to incorporate the growing science of cellular, genetic and epigenetic mechanisms into their mainstream medical training. To Dr Hale, Functional Medicine is clearly not ‘alternative medicine' but rather a detailed form of mainstream medicine that is based on in-depth, detailed questionnaires, thorough examinations and critical analyses of both routine and functional tests. Two of the key tools in Functional Medicine is creation of a patient’s ‘Time-Line’ (a detailed record of the patient’s past events, diagnoses and symptoms from birth to the current time) and the 'Functional Medicine Matrix' (a breakdown of the physiological imbalances according to the systems-biology approach). The ‘Time-Line’ allows both the doctor and patient to discover the most significant and influential personal 'events' that have contributed to the patient’s current health status. The IFM Matrix allows the doctor to effectively prioritise the investigative and treatment approach according to the most important physiological problems. This approach means that if one or two of the underlying physiological problems are corrected, the other problems will in time, self-correct. This minimises the investigations and treatments and makes the "pill for an ill" approach redundant.
