Shelley assists Dr Hale in carrying out the initial Functional Medicine assessments and provides dietary and lifestyle support for patients.
Dr Shelley Cavezza (Walton) has a Bachelor of Applied Science, a PhD in Medicine from the University of Sydney and over 20 years of experience as a Principal Scientist. She grew up in New Zealand, but completed her undergraduate and post graduate studies in Australia. She worked at the Menzies School of Health Research in Darwin for 15 years (which is an institute focused on improvements in Indigenous Health), working alongside specialist infectious disease physicians, epidemiologists, scientists, nutritionists, nurses and Indigenous health workers. She also led an integrated health program aimed at improving skin health in people living in remote Indigenous communities.
In 2009, Dr Cavezza moved to the Sunshine Coast and took up a position as Associate Professor in Immunology at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Whilst continuing this position, Dr Cavezza has commenced part time work in Functional Medicine Coaching. She completed the certificate in 'Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice' in the United States in 2016 (with the Institute of Functional Medicine) and has training in Human Nutrition, Nutrigenomics and Personal DNA profiling. Dr Cavazza joined the Hale Clinic in 2016 where she enjoys working with patients to support them in making permanent and sustainable lifestyle and dietary changes. She aims to focus on increasing patients' awareness and understanding of the importance and power of nutrition and lifestyle in tackling their condition.
